FAQ
The Northwestern High School 2019-2020 required Summer Reading Program
Why a summer reading program?
We are pleased to present the 2019-2020 Summer Reading Program for Northwestern High School students. This program is designed to encourage and support independent reading habits and instill a love of reading as a lifelong leisure activity that can provide hours of enjoyment. In addition, the ability to read well is critical to college and career success, and research shows that frequent independent reading has a direct correlation to reading achievement and improves vocabulary and writing skills.
Can I read more than one book?
We are encouraging ALL of our current and incoming high school students to read at least one book over the summer; however, multiple books are encouraged!
Where do I get a book?
You may choose your books from the school library, public library, home library, online source or bookstore.
What kind of books can I choose?
You can pick any novel you want.
For a list of ideas, see south_carolina_young_adult_book_awards_from_2010.docx
How long can I check out the books from the school library?
Books can be checked out for the summer. If you check out a book at the beginning of the summer, we would like for you to return it during one of the open summer days so someone else may read it. Call the school for open library dates (803-981-1200).
Thank you for your support of the 2019-2020 Summer Reading Program. Please contact your child’s high school principal or Patti Tate, Program Coordinator of English and Social Studies with any questions at [email protected].
Have a wonderful summer!
